Nina Tomnod Take A Look, Save Lives Page 34

Tomnod Saves Lives

"I can't begin to tell you what great news this.  We have many of the Nina's crew members families working with us, and I think I can hear Ricky and Robin Wright (parents of 19 year Danielle Wright) and Ian and Sue Wootton (parents of Matthew Wootton) shouting with joy right now, as we have been in desperate need of satellite searches."

On June 4th, 2013, a sailboat called the Nina disappeared in the Tasman Sea between New Zealand and Australia.  Aboard are seven sailors, some quite young, while others who have made huge contributions to our world.  On July 5th, 2013, the Rescue Coordination Center New Zealand suspended the official search.  The five families representing the seven sailors are desperately trying to find the Nina.

Tomnod is a crowd sourcing application in which a satellite company provides images, in this case of the Tasman Sea. The images are posted in a common forum called Tomnod.  From there, as many people as possible are asked to look at the image and mark possible hits which may represent the Nina..

Tomnod is based upon the Wisdom of the Crowd, says TES expert, Larry Slack.  It uses the collective opinion of the group rather than the single expert answer of one person to answer a question.  Here, the basic question is, with plenty of little white blobs on a satellite photo, which blob is the Nina?

"A large group's aggregated answers to questions involving quantity estimation, general world knowledge, and spatial reasoning has generally been found to be as good as, and often better than, the answer given by any of the individuals within the group," Slack said.

For the Nina Search this is phenomenal news!  Tomnod will help provide digital images!  While it will take a short time to get all of the images taken, there is plenty to do with the current images!

Please contribute to the Nina Fund!  Reunite 7 sailors with their families!

Please go to the Tomnod page and have a good look!  It is a lot of fun and you are saving lives at the same time!  Let's just say, X marks the spot!

The cost  of rescuing seven sailors is very high!  Please help bring these great people home!  Your donation will make a huge difference!

The only reason we ask is because the money is really needed and
will go a long ways to saving the Nina 7.
